The Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History preserves, displays and explores the history of African Americans in the Central Savannah River Area. Employing museum-style displays in a restored historic building, collections include photographs and items contained within the Ebony Legacy Exhibition and Pilgrim Life Insurance Company Exhibition, and art held within the Alice Davis Collection and the Charles Smith Collection. Surrounded by a late-1800s-style garden and offering numerous special annual events, the museum is part of the Laney-Walker District, close to the Medical College of Georgia and is a mile south of the Augusta Canal Interpretive Center.
