Culture
While the most famous attraction in town is Augusta National Golf Club, the course is virtually inaccessible if it’s not the week of the Masters Tournament. Instead of trying to get tickets for this wait-listed event, head to the Augusta Canal where sports like kayaking, jogging and fishing all take place. If the weather is less than optimal, you can still get a taste of authentic Augusta at the Morris Museum of Art, where art of the American South is the main focus, or with the contemporary works of locals at Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art.
History
While visiting the canal, stop by the interpretive center to get a look into the waterway’s significance. Explore the general history of the city at the Augusta Museum of History. After that historical overview, get a more detailed look into some of these periods at sites like the Ezekiel Harris House and President Woodrow Wilson’s boyhood home.
